Since there is hardly any carbohydrate or fat, the diet works on the premise that the body will burn stored fat for energy. Since a cabbage soup diet has fruits and vegetables there is enough food that contains fiber so you won’t be constipated. Anytime you feel hungry you can have the soup.

What the critics are saying about a cabbage soup diet  

Critics of the cabbage soup diet feel that losing 8-10 pounds in a week is too drastic a weight loss to be healthy. They say that it is not the best fat burning diet as fat stores need not necessarily breakdown if the body does not get calories from fat or carbs. This may only work if there is long term deprivation of these two energy giving foods.  Food that contains fiber in this diet suppresses hunger but could lead a person to cravings, and it would generally be for junk food, which the person would head for as soon as the seven days are up.  Critics do not rule out the possibility of dehydration with the loss of water showing up as weight loss, and don’t feel such diets are healthy trends.

Critics feel that the cost of weight loss could be expensive and not just in monetary terms.  There would be visits to the doctor or spending on medications for side effects like headaches or dizziness, due to initial carbohydrate deprivation. But this can be dealt with by remaining active and drinking lots of water. Taking a multi-vitamin tablet won’t hurt either.
